EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti confirms the bank’s readiness to expand partnership portfolio with Uzbekistan
Today, March 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by the head of this financial institution, Suma Chakrabarti.
According to the presidential press service, during the meeting, the priority areas of practical cooperation were thoroughly discussed.
“Suma Chakrabarti confirmed the readiness of the bank to continue to fully support the ongoing reform program in Uzbekistan and to radically expand the partnership portfolio,” the press service notes.

Particular attention was paid to the preparation and promotion of priority projects to modernize infrastructure, develop the banking sector, textile and other industries, as well as small business initiatives.
In addition, an exchange of views took place on the schedule and agenda of joint events aimed at facilitating the attraction of direct investment, best practices, knowledge and technologies in the economy of our country.
It should be recalled that Uzbekistan and the EBRD resumed partnership in 2017. During this period, a new country strategy of the bank and a joint “road map” have been developed and are being implemented. The volume of investments reached $1.1 billion and was directed to such priority sectors as energy, heat and water supply, communications, road and housing construction. At the same time, one-third of all EBRD investments goes to support private sector initiatives.

In addition to a representative office in Tashkent, the bank opened an office in Andijan, and plans to open another one in Urgench by the end of the year.
