Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan is ready to assist Kazakhstan in overcoming the consequences of the flood
On May 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a videoconference, during which the head of state once again highlighted the emergency situation in the Syrdarya region.
The President noted that as a result of the incident in Sardoba, the southern part of Kazakhstan had also suffered damage. Mirziyoyev said that the government of Uzbekistan will work in close cooperation with the neighboring country in dealing with the consequences of the disaster.
“Unfortunately, as a result of the Sardoba disaster, some settlements in the Maktaaral district of the Turkestan region were also flooded. We had a telephone conversation with the President of Kazakhstan, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in the spirit of mutual understanding and openness. Yesterday, a delegation led by the governor of the Turkestan region Umirzak Shukeyev visited the site and studied the situation in detail.
We have always lived in peace and harmony with the brotherly Kazakh people, drinking water from the same river, strengthening kinship ties and being as thick as thieves. We have always stood shoulder to shoulder and supported each other, both in happy days and in trials.
It is really disconcerting for us to see that this unexpected disaster has caused excessive concern and damage not only to our population but also to our neighbors. We feel really sorry that their settlements and arable lands have been damaged.
Our government, relevant ministries and departments, local authorities, other officials and experts, together with their Kazakh counterparts, will certainly work in close cooperation to deal with the consequences of the incident.
I am confident that we will overcome these difficulties together, in unity and solidarity,” the President said.
