Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates President of Azerbaijan on the Republic Day

On May 28, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has congratulated the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the country’s national holiday, Republic Day, the presidential press service said.

Republic Day is a national holiday in Azerbaijan, observed annually on 28 May. This was the day in 1918 when the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed for the first time. It is one of the brightest pages in the history of Azerbaijani people, which commemorated the country's unification.

Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan on October 2, 1995. Azerbaijan opened its Embassy in Uzbekistan in 1996 and Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission started functioning in Azerbaijan in 1998.
