On June 24-25, Samarkand will host the 65th virtual meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe.
Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov will open the event.
The decision to hold the event in Samarkand in 2020 was taken after the State Committee for Tourism Development sent a proposal to the UNWTO Secretariat.
It will be attended by more than 300 members of delegations from over 40 countries. It is also planned to hold a conference jointly with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to hold this event online. The event is aimed at discussing the impact of the pandemic on tourism and overcoming its consequences.
UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, Chair of the CUE, Minister of Tourism of Greece Harry Theoharis, Regional Director for Europe Alessandra Priante will also address the meeting. The event will include interagency discussions on “COVID-19 response policy”, reports by UNWTO and International Finance Corporation.
