“Reducing customs duties is the only way to stop UzAuto Motors from raising prices unreasonably” – Antimonopoly Committee representative

The leadership of the Antimonopoly Committee commented on the ongoing lawsuit against UzAuto Motors. The First Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Bobur Karimov, spoke about the way to victory over the company.

At the AIMC press conference on December 7, the leadership of the Antimonopoly Committee commented on the ongoing dispute with local carmaker UzAuto Motors.

“The general public is aware of the trial: it has been covered widely. Respecting the court’s decision, I would like to emphasize that we have an expert opinion. If a shortcoming is identified during the work, we are ready to work on ourselves and correct the mistake. In this case, we have no doubts about the calculations and will stay firm on our opinion,” Bekzod Ummatov, Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee, said.

Bobur Karimov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee, said there is only one way to stop UzAuto Motors from raising prices unreasonably.

“This is reducing customs duties. It is necessary to reduce customs duties on imported cars. If there is competition, there is no need to check them either. The competition itself puts it all in place. If this issue is not resolved, then, perhaps, we will have to review the case of UzAuto Motors every year, maybe even win in the court as well. But it will not work, the solution is to create competition in the market,” Karimov said.

Earlier, it was reported that the Tashkent city administrative court would reconsider the case of UzAuto Motors on December 11.
