Uzbekistan to grant citizenship to stateless persons living in the country for 15 years
Uzbekistan is introducing a procedure of granting citizenship to stateless persons who have lived in the Republic for 15 years. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to Oliy Majlis.
It should be reminded that last year Uzbekistan established a procedure in accordance with which stateless persons immigrated to the country before 1995 (more than 50,000 people) received citizenship.
“I would like to suggest to continue this work next year and grant citizenship to stateless persons who moved to Uzbekistan before 2005 and have been living here permanently.
With this change, another 20,000 people living in our country will have the opportunity to become citizens of Uzbekistan.
From now onwards, a permanent procedure for granting citizenship to stateless persons who have lived in our country for 15 years will be introduced,” the President said.
