Number of children killed in road accidents increased by 64.5% in Jan-Apr 2021
During the first 4 months of 2021, the number of road accidents involving children increased by 25.3%, and the number of children killed in them increased by 64.5%. This was announced at the AIMC press conference by Colonel Erali Bozorov, Deputy Head of the Main Traffic Safety Department of the Interior Ministry.
According to the official, 185 roads leading to schools lack modern pedestrian crossings.
Also, poor lighting of sidewalks limits the ability to ensure the safety of minors in the early morning or at night. Artificial lighting of unregulated pedestrian crossings at 2,731 places is required.
“Teaching traffic rules to schoolchildren is not organized at the required level. There are no separate classes in this area yet. Classes are conducted only at the expense of other subjects, by teachers who do not have sufficient qualifications,” he said.
In January-April of this year, the number of road accidents involving children increased by 25.3%, and the number of children killed in them increased by 64.5%.
