62 percent of income taxpayers receive salaries of up to 2 million soums in Uzbekistan
In May 2021, 4.6 million Uzbeks paid tax on wage income. 38 percent of them receive salaries of up to 1 million soums (less than $100), and 24 percent – from 1 to 2 million soums, follows from the Finance Ministry’s report.
In the first half of 2021, 4,647,900 people in Uzbekistan paid payroll tax. In 2020, this figure was 4,161,300.
According to the report of the Ministry of Finance, the number of income taxpayers in the republic in the first half of the year increased by 486,600 people.
According to the ministry, 42 percent of these taxpayers are women.
In January-June, income tax receipts amounted to 8.8 trillion soums (an increase of 1.5 trillion soums), including the tax withheld by employers – 8.1 trillion soums (an increase of 1.3 trillion soums).
It is reported that the following factors contributed to the increase in revenues:
- easing quarantine restrictions introduced in the second quarter of last year;
- recovery of economic activity;
- an increase in the minimum wage by 10 percent from February 1, 2021;
- restoration of material incentives for employees of budgetary organizations from 2021.
