Shavkat Mirziyoyev holds talks with Gurbanguly Beridmuhamedov

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on 6 August.

According to the presidential press service, Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed at the meeting that the Summit of Central Asian Leaders, which is being held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan, is a high-level event and is another important step in strengthening regional collaboration.

The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international ties.

“Despite the difficult period of the pandemic, the heads of state noted with satisfaction that the relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are strengthening,” the statement said.

The sides paid special attention to the development of trade and economic relations.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached earlier. It was stressed that in order to continue the positive growth, it is necessary to develop new projects and intensify contacts between border areas and business circles.

Prospects for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, access to new foreign markets through the corridors of South Asia and the South Caucasus, including the creation of an international transport and transit corridor in accordance with the Ashgabat Agreement were discussed.

The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming summit. It was agreed to hold a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council in the near future to find new "growth points" of cooperation, to prepare effective projects and agreements.

Attention was also paid to the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties.

Following the meeting, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan reaffirmed their determination to gradually strengthen the strategic partnership based on the principles of mutual trust and respect for the prosperity of our peoples.
