Head of OSCE/ODIHR mission considers priority areas of Mirziyoyev’s electoral platform
On October 22, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as a presidential candidate, met with the head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) mission, Owen Murphy.
During the meeting, exchange of views took place on the implementation of democratic transformations, improvement of electoral legislation and the electoral process, as well as preparation and conduct of the upcoming important political event in accordance with international norms and standards.
The priority directions of the election platform of the presidential candidate from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan were also considered.
The Bureau is one of the OSCE leading institutions, whose mandate covers issues of ensuring the observance of fundamental human rights and freedoms, contributing to the strengthening of democratic institutions and civil society.
ODIHR has been participating in the observation of the presidential and parliamentary elections in our country since 1999. In December 2016, the Bureau sent a full-scale mission to Uzbekistan for the first time to observe the presidential elections.
A similar delegation arrived in Uzbekistan for the current presidential elections. The joint international mission includes observers from the Bureau, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament.
