The greeting was addressed to the participants of the second Russian-Uzbek educational forum, taking place on November 16-17 in Moscow. It was also read out at the forum by the head of the Kremlin’s department for interregional and cultural relations with foreign countries, Igor Maslov.

“The fruitful cooperation of our countries in the field of education undoubtedly contributes to the development of bilateral relations of strategic partnership and alliance. The main thing is that joint work in this area is being carried out very actively and efficiently, despite the known limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” the report said.

Putin noted that the 15th branch of the Russian university will soon open in Uzbekistan, and the number of Uzbek students in Russia has exceeded 43,000 this year.

The President also mentioned that the forum agenda includes such issues as interaction between Russia and Uzbekistan through universities, advanced training of secondary school teachers, as well as improving preschool education for children, including language.

At the end of his greeting, Putin expressed confidence that the initiatives of the forum participants would be in demand in practice and would serve to further strengthen friendly ties between the countries.

The first Russian-Uzbek educational forum was held in Tashkent in October 2018 as part of Putin’s visit to Uzbekistan. Following the forum, more than 100 documents and agreements were signed between universities of the two countries.

The second forum was to be held as part of the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation, planned in 2020 and postponed to November this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
