Two new ministries being created on the basis of Ministry of Tourism and Sports
On February 18, the Oliy Majlis held a regular session of the Legislative Chamber. The deputies considered and approved the candidacy of Aziz Abduhakimov for the post of Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan – Minister of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.
The meeting also considered and approved the candidacy of Adham Ikramov for the post of Minister of Sports Development. It is unknown at this time whether Adham Ikramov will step down as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – he has been chairing the chamber since 2017.
In April 2021, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports and the State Committee for Tourism Development were merged to form the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, with Aziz Abduhakimov being its head. Now, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Sports Development are being established on the basis of this ministry. The change has not been made public.
The structure, which functioned as the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture until 2021, was reorganized last year as an Agency for Cultural Heritage.
