Construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway to kick off in autumn
The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan approved the main directions for the development of the country’s railway transport for 2022-2026.
The decision was made on May 20, at a meeting, 24.kg reports.
The government expects that this will not only create conditions for the future development and improvement of railway transport and infrastructure, but also ensure an increase in the level and quality of passenger and freight transportation by rail.
“The development of the railway industry is one of the priority areas for the work of the Cabinet of Ministers. In the fall, it is planned to launch the largest project in the history of our independence - the construction of a railway along the route China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan,” PM Akylbek Japarov said.
He stressed that “it is necessary to support this project”.
It should be recalled that on April 8 this year, Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. During the conversation, the parties discussed the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
In October 2021, it became known that Kyrgyzstan, for its part, completed all design work on the construction of the railway.
Last summer, experts said that Uzbekistan could receive up to $600 million from rail transit.
