The embassy in Tashkent ranked second among US embassies abroad that issued the most DV visas in April. During the month, the US Consul in Uzbekistan issued green card lottery visas to 281 citizens.

“We will continue to support the green card lottery,” the embassy said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

According to the US Department of State, in April 2022, the US Embassy in Tashkent issued the following numbers of immigrant visas:

  • ꞏ DV - 281;
  • ꞏ FX - 221;
  • ꞏ IR1 - 19, IR2 - 7, IR5 - 35;
  • ꞏ F2A - 16, F2B - 10;
  • ꞏ CR1 - 5, CR2 - 1;
  • ꞏ SE - 4, F1 - 7.

Earlier, Kun.uz reported that as of April 2022, only 24% of Uzbek DV-2022 winners were invited for an interview. The US embassy in Tashkent cut its operations sharply in early 2020 due to the pandemic, and only in October last year began inviting green card winners for interviews, lagging behind other US embassies in terms of the number of people invited.

Uzbekistan is one of the countries with the largest population of green cards.  Every year, about 2 million Uzbeks participate in the Diversity Visa (DV) program.

The Diversity Visa Program is a visa program aimed at ensuring the diversity of nations in American society. The program is based on a law passed in the United States in 1990. Its goal is to give the United States the right to reside in the United States to members of nations with historically low immigration rates.
