Uzbekistan, Latvia establish cooperation on training technical specialists for Uzbekistan GTL

Yesterday, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Karshi Engineering and Economic Institute (KIEI) and the Riga Technical University (RTU) took place in the capital of Latvia.

The agreement was signed by KIEI rector Orifjon Bazarov and RTU rector, academician Leonid Rybitskis. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the document lays the legal basis for interuniversity cooperation in such specialties as economics, information and communication technologies, engineering, mechanics, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, which are in demand, including in Uzbekistan GTL, and also involves interaction in the field of exchange students and faculty, development of joint research programs, participation in international scientific projects.

The bilateral document was prepared and signed in pursuance of the tasks set by the head of state during the opening ceremony of Uzbekistan GTL in December 2021. The Embassy has worked out the issue of establishing interuniversity cooperation with Latvia in the field of training technical specialists who are in demand in the development of the first chemical cluster in Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that RTU is one of the largest technical universities in the Baltics. About 14,000 students study in 9 engineering disciplines. In the QS World University Rankings report for 2022, RTU was recognized as the best university in the Baltics in the discipline “Engineering and Technology”, surpassing its competitors – Tallinn University of Technology and Vilnius Gedimines University of Technology.
