“I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, congratulate you and the veterans of the sphere, who are making a worthy contribution to its development today, on a wonderful holiday - the day of press and media workers, I express my deep respect and best wishes to all of you. In you, we see selfless and hardworking people who give their deep knowledge, talent and skill to such a noble cause as ensuring the constitutional rights of citizens in the field of information, exalting the honor and dignity of a person, increasing self-awareness and expanding the worldview of compatriots, strengthening the atmosphere of openness and transparency in society, protection of national interests in the global information space,” the head of state  said.

The President recalled that in recent years, large-scale work has been carried out in the republic to turn the media into a reliable bridge for dialogue with the people, develop a modern market for information services, healthy competition among the media, strengthen their material and technical base, strengthen the traditions of mentoring, a worthy stimulating the hard work of workers in the sphere.

Mirziyoyev stressed that in this area, along with successes, there are also problems. Confirmation, in particular, is the fact that recently in social networks there are reports from the field about the facts of a disdainful attitude towards media workers, obstruction of the free activities of journalists within their powers.

“I want to emphasize once again: in the democratic state that we are building, freedom of speech and the press will always be protected by the Constitution, laws and the President of the country. Obstructing the free exercise of the legitimate activities of media workers should be regarded as an opposition to our democratic reforms, damaging the country’s authority. The authorities of the court and the prosecutor’s office should take decisive action on such negative facts that are completely unacceptable to us. We must never forget one truth: we all learn about democracy, and this process is continuous. We still need to achieve a lot in this direction.

I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate you, dear masters of the word, on this holiday, I wish you all health, happiness and great creative success, peace and prosperity to your families,” the President concluded.
