Memorandum on obligations of Iran as a SCO member to be signed in Samarkand
Iran will join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as an observer this year, the Acting FM of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov reported.
“This year, within the framework of the chairmanship of Uzbekistan, Iran, as an observer country, will be accepted as a member of the SCO. A memorandum on Iran’s obligations as a member of the SCO will also be signed in Samarkand,” he said at a round table in Moscow.
Leaders of the countries-members of the organization supported the candidacy of Iran in September last year.
The SCO is an international organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of Uzbekistan, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Observer countries in the SCO are Afghanistan, Belarus and Mongolia, partner countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
