State of emergency to be softened in Karakalpakstan
On July 2, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On the introduction of a state of emergency in the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”.
According to the press secretary of the head of state Sherzod Asadov, taking into account the stabilization of the situation in Karakalpakstan and the return of the life of the inhabitants of the region to their usual course, the President decided to mitigate the state of emergency imposed on the territory of Karakalpakstan, namely, the establishment of a new curfew “from 23:00 to 05:00” instead of “from 21:00 to 07:00”.
It also became known that the corresponding decree with amendments to the presidential decree on the introduction of a state of emergency in Karakalpakstan dated July 2, 2022 was signed and sent for approval to the Oliy Majlis chambers.
It should be recalled that on July 2, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On the introduction of a state of emergency in the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”.
In accordance with paragraph 19 of Article 93 of the Constitution and Articles 5-7 of the constitutional law “On the state of emergency”, in order to ensure the safety of citizens, protect their rights and freedoms, restore law and order in the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the following were introduced:
- state of emergency for the period from 00:01 July 3, 2022 to 00:00 August 2, 2022;
- for the period of the state of emergency, a curfew from 21:00 to 07:00.
The decree came into force from 00:01 on July 3, 2022 and was sent for approval to the chambers of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The commandant, together with the ministries and departments involved, was instructed to take all necessary measures to ensure security and law enforcement in the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as to implement other necessary measures in accordance with the requirements of the constitutional law “On the state of emergency”. The Prosecutor General is instructed to ensure that the law is respected in the implementation of the measures and time limits established by this decree.
