“President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s speech has been misinterpreted by the Russian mass media and caused Konstantin Zatulin to develop erroneous conclusions.
The head of state mentioned the dark days of the recent past based on historical facts. Failure to remember the decimation of influential thinkers of our people in those dark days may lead to the repetition of such mistakes in the future,” says Alisher Kadirov.
According to the MP, Mirziyoyev spoke not only about Uzbeks, but about the repressions of intellectuals of all nationalities who lived in the Soviet era.
“The president spoke about cruel injustices against not only Uzbek people, but also against intellectuals of all nationalities who lived in the Soviet state at that time. I don’t think you need to be a great historian to understand this and interpret it correctly.
I recommend to my colleagues to refrain from interpretations that will further complicate the already complex environment and undermine peace and tranquility in the region. Because no one wins anything from this.
We need to think twice before we speak,” said Kadirov.
On August 31, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Martyrs’ Memorial Alley, remembered the victims of repression and delivered a speech. After this speech, some Russian publications circulated reports with the content “The President of Uzbekistan accused the USSR of destroying the Uzbek nation”.
Based on these misinterpreted messages, Russian State Duma Deputy Konstantin Zatulin also commented on the situation.
Sodiq Safoev, the first deputy chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, noted that the Russian mass media are reacting completely inadequately to Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s balanced and concise speech dedicated to the memory of the victims of repression on Independence Day.
