Muslim Board’s fatwa center issues statement regarding Eid al-Fitr celebration date in Uzbekistan
Currently, the date of the celebration of Ramadan Hayit is interpreted differently on Internet sites and social networks. The working group of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan called on people to wait for an official statement.
According to the press service of the Muslim Board’s fatwa center, the working group, which consists of scientists and qualified specialists, is monitoring the new Shawwal crescent in cooperation with experts from foreign countries. Representatives of the working group conduct monitoring in the USA, Turkiye, South Korea and Russia.
According to information received from prestigious astronomical centers abroad and the Institute of Astronomy under the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the day of Ramadan 2023, that is, the new phase of the month of Shawwal, falls on Thursday, April 20 this year.
Astronomers note that on this day the Shawwal crescent will not be visible on the territory of Uzbekistan, but it can be seen in some regions of the world.
Based on Sharia norms and astronomical calculations, the new moon of the month of Shawwal 1444 Hijri will be observed on April 20, 2023, in some regions of the Earth. Therefore, preliminary conclusions are made that Ramadan Hayit will fall on Friday, April 21, 2023.
A number of countries, such as the United States, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, have declared Friday, April 21 this year, Ramadan Hayit.
The final conclusion will be presented tomorrow, April 20.
“It should be noted that one should always be careful in this matter. Only the mufti of the country announces the beginning and end of Ramadan, and devout Muslims are required to follow this fatwa. We ask users of social networks not to mislead our people by spreading various messages on this issue,” the fatwa center says.
