President criticizes governors for allocating less money to repair schools
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is holding a videoconference meeting on school education issues.
It is reported that there is a demand for 350,000 new school seats in the newly built blocks and mahallas: in Karakalpakstan - 50, in Fergana - 46, in Samarkand - 37, in Jizzakh - 33, in Andijan - 29, in Tashkent city - 28, in Khorezm - 24, in Kashkadarya - 22, in Bukhara, Namangan, Tashkent regions - 20 each, in Surkhandarya - 17, in Syrdarya and Navoi regions - 14 each.
In recent years, 350 private schools with 70,000 seats have been established (until 2018, there were 30 in total). Tashkent city (134) and Fergana (60) have more private schools than other regions. However, there are only 3 private schools in Navoi, 4 - in Surkhandarya, and 7 - in Syrdarya. There are only 35 private schools with 6,300 seats in Samarkand, which needs an additional 150,000 educational seats.
According to reports, the governors themselves should find funds and "scramble" to improve the school's infrastructure.
135 billion soums have been allocated from the local budget for the repair of schools this year (21,000 soums per student). However, in the following 31 districts and cities, governors did not provide funds for these purposes: the cities of Angren, Bekabad, Yangiyul, Nurafshan, Peshku, Gallaaral, Pakhtakor, Guzor, Kamashi, Mubarak, Kasbi, Nurota, Kushrabat, Narpay, Payarik, Pakhtachi, Bandikhon, Boyovut, Saykhunabad, Mirzaabad, Akaltin, Akhangaran, Buka, Chinaz, Rishton, Fergana, Furkat, Yangibazar, Mirabad, Yakkasaray districts.
