Earthquake kills more than one thousand people in Morocco, Shavkat Mirziyoyev sends condolences to the king

More than 1,037 people died and 1,200 were injured as a result of the earthquake that occurred on the night of September 9 in Morocco, Al Jazeera reported.

The US Geological Survey reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.8, and the epicenter was at a depth of 18.5 km.

According to the Moroccan MIA, the earthquake occurred in six provinces in the Atlas Mountains region, home to 8-10 million people.

The area where the earthquake occurred is located about 70 km from the city of Marrakesh. According to witnesses, the historic part of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, suffered the most damage.

There are problems with the internet and electricity supply in the areas affected by the earthquake.

The last strong earthquake in Morocco occurred in 2004. Its magnitude was 6.5, about 600 people died.


Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent his condolences to the king of Morocco, Mohammed VI, in connection with the large number of people killed and seriously injured, as well as large losses caused by the strong earthquake that occurred in the territory of Morocco.

The head of the state expressed his condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased and wished the victims a speedy recovery, the press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Asadov, said.
