Uzbekistan increased car imports from China sixfold, bought $1.2 billion worth of passenger cars in nine months
Deliveries of Chinese electric vehicles have grown more than 4 times, exceeding 20 thousand.
In January-September 2023, Uzbekistan increased the import of passenger cars from China almost sixfold, Spot said with reference to the data of the Chinese General Administration of Customs.
Over the past nine months of the year, deliveries of Chinese passenger cars to Uzbekistan amounted to 65.3 thousand units, which is 5.8 times more than in the corresponding period of 2022. The cost of imported cars is estimated at $1.2 billion – an increase of 5.9 times.
Exports of electric vehicles from China to the Uzbek market increased 4.1 times – up to 20.6 thousand units.
Average prices for Chinese cars have also increased. For example, a car with an internal combustion engine costs on average $18.6 thousand (+2.4% year-on-year), and an EV costs $22.2 thousand (+12.6%).
According to the Statistics Agency, since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan has imported cars and passenger vehicles for $1.22 billion, which is twice as high as the previous year.
Over the seven months of this year, Uzbekistan imported 7,391 electric cars worth $217 million. China, as a key supplier of EVs, accounted for 93.3% (6,898) of their total number.
