Customs officer who embezzled $11.7 million detained
The customs officer was under surveillance for several months, after which his involvement in illegal activities was confirmed.
An employee of the Customs Committee, who embezzled 145 billion soums (about $11.7 million), has been detained, UzA writes.
It is noted that in the customs system, there is a practice of deferring payments for a certain period of time on the basis of an insurance policy. The detainee, having agreed with the insurance company, indulged their interests.
During the 2-3 months that the employee was under surveillance, it was confirmed that he was involved in illegal activities. According to data obtained on the ground, it was revealed that he looted funds in the amount of 145 billion soums through insurance.
The man was fired and arrested. Several employees of the insurance company who fled abroad are wanted. Currently, out of 145 billion soums, 84 billion soums have been reimbursed.
