“Uzbekistan will stop building new cement plants” – Aziz Abdukhakimov
There are 47 cement plants in the republic, 23 of which have stopped working. It was found out that 90% of 25 of them do not meet environmental requirements.
A moratorium on the construction of new cement plants may be announced in Uzbekistan. The Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov announced this at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.
“Now it has been decided whether we will announce a moratorium on the construction of new cement plants in Uzbekistan or stop it. In addition, we have started to study all the cement plants,” Abdukhakimov said.
According to the minister’s information, there are currently 47 cement factories in Uzbekistan. 23 of them were suspended for non-compliance with environmental requirements or for other reasons.
“When we studied the remaining 25 enterprises, we found out that almost 90% of them do not meet environmental requirements. In this regard, we have issued appropriate warning to each enterprise and our own measures,” the minister of ecology said.
It should be recalled that earlier Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized the officials for proposing to build new cement plants.
