Uzbekistan will take part in the World Exhibition Expo Osaka 2025, which will be held in Japan next year. The large-scale event focuses on the technological, scientific, economic and cultural achievements of more than 170 countries.
The theme of the exhibition is “Designing future society for our lives”. It involves the use of high technologies in the process of finding solutions to social problems, including low living standards, inequality in healthcare, education, etc.
The site of Expo Osaka 2025 will be the artificial island Yumeshima (Japanese for “Dream Island”) in Osaka Bay.
The Foundation for Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan, which represents the country at the exhibition, announced the start of construction of the National Pavilion. Work on its preparation began in 2023 with the participation of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan. The pavilion's partner is the Swiss construction company Nussli Switzerland.
The national pavilion will be located in the western part of the Expo, in the central circle of the main country pavilions. It will be three-level. Total area - 800 sq. m. The foundation worked on the architectural concept of the pavilion together with the world-famous studio ATELIER BRÜCKNER (Germany).
The exhibition project “Garden of Knowledge” will be presented in the pavilion. He will tell visitors about the process of transformation of Uzbekistan in accordance with the three priority Sustainable Development Goals: “Quality Education”, “Affordable and Clean Energy” and “Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure”.
In addition to the presentation of the exhibition project, the program includes a number of cultural events, including the National Day of Uzbekistan, as well as a panel discussion in the women’s pavilion.
“Participation in Expo Osaka 2025 will open up many prospects and opportunities for Uzbekistan: demonstration of the country’s innovations and achievements, tourism development, investment and business opportunities, international cooperation and cooperation, as well as cultural exchange between countries,” the fund’s press service said in a statement.
During her visit to the Land of the Rising Sun, the chairman of the foundation, Gayane Umerova, met with the Director General of the Japanese Cultural Affairs Agency, Nirohiko Nakahara, and the Advisor to the National Institutes of Cultural Heritage of Japan, Kuni Sato. They discussed a plan of cultural events, including exhibitions at the Osaka Ethnographic Museum in 2026, the National Museums of Nara and Tokyo in 2027, and the premiere tour of the National Ballet of Uzbekistan with the production of “Lazgi. Dance of Soul and Love” in Japan, as well as a visit of representatives of the Tokyo Museum to Uzbekistan to study the museum collections.
Gayana Umerova also met with the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, winner of the Pritzker Prize. It follows from the foundation’s message that the construction of the building of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan according to the design of Tadao Ando will begin this year.
At the moment, work on the architectural project and design concept of the building has been completed. “Implementation is moving into the final stage – Tadao Ando has been entrusted with supervision over the implementation of the project,” the message notes.
At the presentation, which was held by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in 2022, it was indicated that the museum would be built in the area of the National Park of Uzbekistan in Tashkent on the site between the Abulkasim madrasah, the Palace of Friendship of Peoples and the monument to Alisher Navoi. Now the museum is located on Shakhrisabz Street.
