Sidewalks may appear on bank of Burijar canal in Tashkent

A project for improvement and creation of an embankment promenade along the canal is being discussed.

On April 17, Tashkent city mayor Shavkat Umurzakov visited the coastal zone of the Burijar canal, which flows through the Yakkasaray and Chilanzar districts of the capital, where he got acquainted with the project for improvement and creation of an embankment of a walking area along the canal, the city administration reported.

In the published photographs one can see drawings of the canal embankment improvement project. This suggests that settlements along the canal may fall into the “red zone”, that is, they may be demolished.

A Kun.uz source reported that this project has not yet been approved and is currently under discussion.

Umurzakov gave instructions to carry out an inventory and assessment of the condition of the trees with the help of specialists from the Department of Ecology and the State Inspectorate for Plant Quarantine, and then make adjustments to the project, taking into account the location of the trees on the territory, in order to avoid cutting down.
