Gov’t plans to launch paid parking on several streets in Tashkent

In 2024, it is planned to launch paid parking on several streets in Tashkent. The first deputy chairman for digital transformation and information technology of Tashkent Invest Company, Alexander Gurko, announced this on April 26 at the CAEx Real Estate exhibition, Kun.uz correspondent reports.

“Today there are no paid parking spaces in Tashkent. This year we expect to launch several streets with paid parking. There is also a program for the development of multi-level parking complexes in mahallas,” Gurko shared.

In the next two years, the Tashkent city administration intends to organize 20 thousand paid parking spaces, and by 2030 their number will reach 70 thousand units. However, changes are required to the administrative code introducing fines for non-payment of parking, as well as to other regulations.

“Currently, approximately 90 streets have been agreed upon on which it is planned to organize paid parking, including 10 central streets,” said the first deputy chairman of Tashkent Invest Company.

Alexander Gurko noted that the process of organizing parking was legally torn between departments. Thus, all fees from paid parking should go to the Ministry of Transport, but the capital’s administration is in charge of allocating land and determining tariffs. In addition, changes in the land code and the lack of a road cadastre hinder the implementation of the project.

“The cost of paid parking is about 3,000 soums per hour at the first stage, but there are weekend and holiday rates, day and night rates. We are currently developing a concept for organizing parking space and creating a tariff menu. This preparatory work will take another 2-3 months,” he said.

In January 2023, the Tashkent city administration approved the introduction of paid parking for cars on central streets. The Turkish company Kasy Park was to organize and maintain the system on a PPP basis. The amount of the contract for organizing paid parking amounted to 891 million soums, the validity period of the contract for which the territories are allocated is up to 10 years.

In total, Kasy Park received territories on 10 central streets of the capital:

1.  Glinka street (from Nukus street to Shota Rustaveli street) – 2,799 sq.m.;
2.  Bratislava street  (from Shota Rustaveli St. to Babur St.) – 1,187 sq.m.;
3.  Mirabad street  (from Nukus street to Sharaf Rashidov street) – 5,798 sq.m.;
4.  Avliyota street (from Nukus street to Mirabadskaya street) – 1,687 sq.m.;
