Uzbekistan abolishes separate registration for Tashkent: Single system for all regions proposed
A draft law has been approved in its first reading, which proposes the abolition of separate registration procedures for permanent and temporary residence in the capital and other regions.
At the latest session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law “On the Procedure for Registration at the Place of Residence and Notification at the Place of Stay of Citizens of Uzbekistan, Foreign Nationals, and Stateless Persons” was approved in its first reading.
The document aims to introduce a unified registration system for both permanent and temporary residence.
As noted at the session, the current Law “On the List of Categories of Persons – Citizens of Uzbekistan Subject to Registration at the Place of Permanent Residence in the City of Tashkent and Tashkent Region” still presents bureaucratic obstacles in the registration process for both permanent and temporary residents in Tashkent and the Tashkent Region.
The draft law proposes to repeal the aforementioned law and implement a single registration procedure for residents throughout the republic.
Additionally, it suggests introducing a notification system for the place of stay by improving the registration process.
“There will no longer be a separate registration procedure for Tashkent and Tashkent Region and a different one for other regions. The practice of having separate procedures will be abandoned, and a unified system will be implemented throughout the republic,” the statement said.
