Energy Ministry drafts bill for 50% electricity discount for non-gasified households

Uzbekistan is set to provide a 50% discount on electricity bills for households in non-gasified areas, beginning January 1, according to Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov. The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that a draft resolution for the measure has been prepared and sent for legal review.

This initiative aims to ease financial burdens for residents in regions lacking natural gas supplies, enabling them to pay reduced rates for electricity. The ministry’s press office, responding to an inquiry from Kun.uz, stated that the draft is currently under examination by relevant authorities.

Mirzamakhmudov initially announced the proposed discount last month during an appearance on the “Lolazor” podcast, where he outlined the government’s directive to extend the 50% discount, which currently applies to non-gasified multi-story buildings, to single-family homes without gas connections.

"The 50% discount on electricity already applies to [non-gasified] multi-story buildings. Now, we are working to extend it to individual households without gas as well," Mirzamakhmudov said. He also noted that variable rates are being considered for industrial enterprises, with adjustments based on their energy demand.
