CPR to host conference on Uzbekistan's parliamentary elections and political reforms
The Center for Progressive Reforms (CPR) has officially opened registration for its upcoming international conference titled “Results of the Parliamentary Elections in Uzbekistan: International Assessment and Pathway to Reforms.” The event, scheduled for December 5, 2024, at the Hilton Tashkent, will provide a platform for in-depth analysis of Uzbekistan's recent parliamentary elections and their implications for the country’s political and institutional development.
Held in October 2024, Uzbekistan’s parliamentary elections were a pivotal moment in the nation’s ongoing reform process. For the first time, the elections utilized a mixed electoral system combining both majority and proportional representation. This new framework was designed to enhance political participation and better reflect public sentiment, shaping the composition of the Legislative Chamber, the Senate, and local councils.
The conference will feature expert-led discussions on a wide range of key issues, including the election results, evolving political dynamics, and the future role of Uzbekistan’s parliament in advancing sustainable development, foreign policy, and reform initiatives. One of the key focuses of the event will be the implications of the mixed electoral system and its potential impact on Uzbekistan's future political landscape.
With a diverse range of participants, the event aims to foster constructive dialogue among policymakers, academics, civil society representatives, and international experts. The goal is to deepen understanding of Uzbekistan's reform trajectory and its democratic aspirations, offering insights into the country’s pathway to greater political inclusivity and stability.
The conference will take place on December 5, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Hilton Tashkent, located on the second floor. Given the limited number of available seats, interested attendees are encouraged to register early using the provided link.
