Uzbekistan and IAEA discuss expanding nuclear cooperation
On December 4, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to explore prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy and related fields.

The meeting focused on enhancing practical partnerships in nuclear energy, agriculture, water management, and healthcare. Both sides reviewed ongoing projects and discussed initiatives to improve Uzbekistan’s legal framework and institutional capacity in nuclear science and medicine. Currently, five joint projects are being implemented in these areas.
The upcoming International Conference on Nuclear Energy Utilization, co-organized by Uzbekistan and the IAEA, was also highlighted during the meeting. The event, scheduled for December 5 in Samarkand, will bring together leading international experts to discuss advancements and challenges in nuclear technology.
President Mirziyoyev and Director General Grossi identified priority areas for cooperation, including capacity-building for national agencies, training high-caliber professionals under IAEA programs, and implementing innovative projects in nuclear energy, agriculture, water resource management, healthcare, and environmental protection.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to adopt a comprehensive roadmap for advancing peaceful nuclear development, signaling a new phase in their multifaceted partnership.
