Islamic Development Bank to allocate nearly $300 million to Uzbekistan for education and road modernization
The government of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) have signed two agreements aimed at advancing the country's education sector and road infrastructure. The agreements were formalized during the Al-Ula Conference on Emerging Markets Economy by the Chairman of the IsDB Group, Muhammad Al-Jasser, and Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov.

The first agreement focuses on enhancing the quality and efficiency of educational services in Uzbekistan. Under this initiative, the IsDB will provide $160.25 million. The project, implemented in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Education, aligns with Uzbekistanās national education strategies.
Key objectives of the education project include:
- Establishing 58 inclusive schools equipped with laboratories, furniture, and digital infrastructure;
- Constructing 2,431 classrooms;
- Introducing a competency-based approach to curricula and teaching materials;
- Improving teacher training, student assessment systems, and quality assurance mechanisms;
- Promoting inclusive education to ensure equal learning opportunities for all children.
By 2026, all children in Uzbekistan will have improved access to quality education within an inclusive, competency-based educational framework. The projectās primary goal is to create a sustainable education model that enhances studentsā skills and academic outcomes.
The second agreement focuses on the reconstruction and modernization of the A373 highway, for which the IsDB will allocate $138.80 million.
Key objectives of the road infrastructure project include:
- Halving travel time to 30 minutes by 2030;
- Reducing road accident rates by 40%, bringing annual traffic incidents down to 24 cases;
- Expanding the current four-lane highway;
- Improving regional and local transport accessibility;
- Optimizing trade routes, fostering tourism, and strengthening integration with neighboring countries.
Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to further strengthen mutual cooperation and develop their partnership.
