Kyrgyzstan to tighten border controls with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
Kyrgyzstan is set to tighten transport control at key checkpoints along its borders with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The government has proposed stricter regulations to enhance oversight, with the decision now open for public discussion.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan conducts vehicle transport control along its external border with the Eurasian Economic Union at the following checkpoints:
• China: "Torugart," "Irkeshtam"
• Tajikistan: "Karamyk," "Kyzyl-Bel," "Kulundu"
• Uzbekistan: "Dustlik"
However, transport control is not currently enforced at the following checkpoints: the Kyrgyz-Tajik border at "Kairagach" and "Bor-Dobo," and the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border at "Kyzyl-Kiya," "Kara-Bagish," and "Ken-Sai."
These checkpoints facilitate not only bilateral trade with neighboring countries but also freight transportation to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and beyond. The lack of proper regulation has led to violations of international road transport agreements.
To enter or transit through Kyrgyzstan, foreign transport operators must obtain the necessary permits. If international agreements are breached — such as entering the country without proper authorization — offending carriers may be denied entry into Kyrgyzstan.
In response, the government has proposed amendments to the list of border checkpoints with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to enhance regulatory oversight.
