Bukhara’s new international airport to open by late 2026
The construction of a new international airport in Bukhara is slated for completion by the end of 2026, according to Javlonbek Umarkhujayev, head of Uzbekistan Airports.

He noted that the feasibility study for the project has been finalized but is still under review. “According to legislation, two ministries need to evaluate and approve it. I expect we’ll have the feasibility study approved by early May,” Umarkhujayev explained.
“Despite this, we’ve already started construction and installation work in the southern part of Bukhara. By the end of next year, we aim to complete and commission the new Bukhara airport,” he added.
The project kicked off last year during the president’s visit to the Bukhara region. Under a public-private partnership framework, the initiative will develop infrastructure meeting global standards. The new facility will have the capacity to handle 1,200 passengers per hour. Enhanced passenger and aircraft services are expected to attract new international airlines.
