On April 8, OpenAI officially registered in Uzbekistan as a provider of electronic services, according to data published on the website of the State Tax Committee.
This means that OpenAI can now pay value-added tax (VAT) and legally offer its services within Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan introduced the requirement for foreign companies to pay VAT on digital services provided to individuals in the country in 2020. Major global companies such as Google, Apple, Meta, and Amazon are among those that have registered as digital service providers.
Earlier, it was reported that foreign companies providing electronic services in Uzbekistan paid more than 100 billion UZS in taxes last year.
