Prosecutor’s office names top 5 Tashkent universities with highest student crime rates
According to the Tashkent city prosecutor’s office, more than half of student-related crimes are committed by students of state-run universities, including the Transport, Technical, and National universities.
The Tashkent city prosecutor’s office held an expanded meeting focused on youth engagement in educational institutions, student upbringing, and the prevention of offenses and crimes among young people.
At the meeting, data on crime among students of higher education institutions in the capital was presented.
Tashkent is home to 92 universities, where more than 562,000 students are enrolled. In 2024, a total of 299 students committed crimes, accounting for 5.3% of all youth-related offenses. In the first three months of 2025 alone, 36 student-related crimes were recorded.
The majority of these offenses were traffic-related incidents — 72 cases (21.5%). These were followed by theft (57 cases), drug-related offenses (46), and cases of bodily harm (41). There were also instances of robbery, assault, and hooliganism.
Of the total number of recorded crimes, most were committed by students of state universities — 179 individuals, or 53%.
Leading the list were:
- Transport University – 27 cases
- Technical University – 21
- National University – 20
- Economic University – 19
- Law University – 12
Private university students were responsible for 140 crimes (42%), with the highest numbers reported at:
- ISFT – 23 cases
- Alfraganus University – 21
- Kimyo University – 20
Students of foreign universities in Tashkent accounted for 16 crimes (5%).
Officials were instructed to strengthen efforts aimed at student guidance: instilling respect for traditional values, encouraging spiritual development during free time, creating a crime-free academic environment, and upholding principles of fair and just education.
