President Mirziyoyev: Middle East conflict may impact trade

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has warned that the escalating conflict in the Middle East could disrupt recently restored trade ties and logistics routes, potentially affecting Uzbekistan and the broader region.

Speaking at a Monday meeting focused on the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, the president drew attention to the emergence of yet another flashpoint in the world.

“This development will impact not only the Middle East, but also our region. If the escalation continues, the trade links and logistical corridors that were reestablished after the pandemic will once again be at risk,” the president said.

He emphasized that the global need for peace, justice, and the upholding of human dignity is greater now than ever before.

According to the president, every regional governor must be able to anticipate both opportunities and risks within their territory, while ministers should do the same within their respective sectors. He stressed the importance of acting proactively and showing initiative, rather than waiting for instructions.

“The most important task is to strengthen dialogue with the population and the business community, and to quickly resolve the issues they raise. This should be the main priority for every leader,” Mirziyoyev stated.

During the meeting, it was also reported that over the past five months, Uzbekistan’s industrial output grew by 6.4%, exports rose by 18%, and foreign investment increased by 46%. More than 2,500 new production facilities worth $3 billion were launched, and 2.4 million people gained employment.
