As reported earlier, a man in Tashkent attempted to rob a bank using a toy gun in April of this year. Wearing a mask, he entered the bank but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement officers. A criminal case was subsequently opened against him.
According to the Millar news program, the Yunusabad District Criminal Court reviewed the case. During the trial, the prosecutor requested a sentence of 9 years in prison.
However, the court found the man guilty under Article 164, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (robbery) and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a general-regime penal colony.
“When I left the house that morning, I didn’t realize my grandson’s toy gun was still in my pocket. I had some minor debts. I honestly don’t know why I did it – I was in despair over my financial situation. I came to Yunusabad and did this. As soon as I entered, I told myself, ‘Zokir, what you’re doing is wrong.’ Then I turned around and walked out. I didn’t hurt anyone, I didn’t take any money. I apologize to everyone – if you can forgive me, please do,” the man told the court during the hearing.
