Uzbekistan leads Central Asia in medal count at FISU World University Games in Germany
Uzbekistan’s student athletes won a total of 15 medals at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany – 4 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze – placing the country at the top among Central Asian nations.
The FISU World University Games 2025, one of the world's largest multi-sport events, took place in Germany from 16 to 27 July across five cities in the Rhine-Ruhr region – Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Hagen, and Mülheim an der Ruhr – as well as the capital, Berlin.
Approximately 8,500 athletes from over 150 nations competed for medals in 18 sports. The basic requirement for participation is that the athletes are enrolled at a university.

Uzbekistan’s delegation participated in 11 sports: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, diving, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo WT, and tennis. The team included 53 athletes representing 18 universities from across the country.
At the end of the competition, Uzbekistan’s team secured 15 medals in total – 4 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze.

As a result, Uzbekistan placed 13th in the overall medal standings and 1st among Central Asian countries.
Japan finished top of the standings following the final day of competition - with 34 gold medals. The People's Republic of China was second with 30 golds, with the USA in third with 28.
