Manchester City plans to retain Abdukodir Khusanov for next season
English football club Manchester City has clarified its plans regarding the future of Uzbek centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, according to Euro-Football, citing British journalist Simon Bajkowski.
The report says the club’s management intends to keep the 21-year-old player for the 2025/26 season. City’s leadership believes in his potential and plans to continue giving him opportunities to prove himself. The expected departure of several current defenders could further increase Khusanov’s chances of staying in the squad.
Previously, there were reports that another English club – Manchester United – had also shown interest in signing the young defender.
Khusanov joined Manchester City from French club RC Lens in January 2025. Since then, he has made 10 appearances and scored one goal for the English side. However, he has recently found himself on the bench, prompting speculation about a potential move during the summer transfer window.
Khusanov’s contract with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2029. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at €35 million.
