President Mirziyoyev inspects progress of new passenger and cargo terminals in Namangan

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Namangan this morning to review the ongoing expansion of the city’s international airport, a $140 million project aimed at transforming the facility into a modern hub for both passenger and cargo traffic.

The project includes the construction of new passenger and cargo terminals, designed to boost capacity and strengthen Namangan’s role as a gateway for trade and tourism in the Fergana Valley.

According to project plans, the new passenger terminal will handle 1.2 million people a year, 2.5 times more than the current capacity. It will feature modern check-in areas, boarding gates, and passenger services in line with international standards.

A dedicated cargo terminal is also under construction. Once completed, it will have the capacity to process 20,000 tons of goods annually and provide direct connections to more than 90 countries. Officials emphasized that the facility will support the export of local agricultural products, textiles, and manufactured goods.

During his inspection, President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of developing the surrounding infrastructure, including roads, hotels, and service facilities, to fully unlock the airport’s potential. “The modernization of Namangan airport should not only ease passenger travel but also drive regional exports and investment,” he said.

Local authorities reported that construction is progressing on schedule, with the passenger terminal expected to open next year. The project is being financed through a mix of state funds and private investment.

The Namangan airport upgrade is part of a broader government strategy to improve air transport infrastructure across Uzbekistan, with the aim of enhancing connectivity, boosting exports, and creating new jobs in the regions.
