Reports circulated on social media claimed that a group of Uzbek nationals had been arrested in Istanbul.
According to an official statement from Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Istanbul, on September 29, six individuals – including a blogger known by the name “Jasmin” – were taken into custody by local police and placed in the Maltepe closed-type correctional facility.
The individuals are suspected of committing crimes related to the illegal circulation of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
“Material evidence seized during the searches has been sent for forensic examination. The investigation is currently ongoing,” the consulate’s statement said.
