Supreme Court reports rise in divorce cases and civil litigation in Uzbekistan
In the first nine months of 2025, courts in Uzbekistan received more than 52,000 applications for divorce, of which over 27,000 marriages were officially dissolved.
According to the Supreme Court, during this time the courts handled the recovery of more than UZS 8.2 trillion in mandatory payments – including alimony for minors, wages and equivalent payments, claims based on written contracts acknowledged by debtors, outstanding utility payments, and other obligations. A total of 1,135,823 judicial orders were issued in these matters.
In addition, courts reviewed 472,932 civil cases. Of these, claims were satisfied in 365,164 cases, rejected in 56,804, left without consideration in 45,682, and terminated in 5,282 cases.
Among the concluded civil cases, 151,519 involved agreements, 52,507 were related to divorce, 19,493 to housing disputes, 14,595 to cases of a special category, 9,116 to the demolition of unauthorized constructions, and 2,835 to the establishment of paternity and other matters.
In divorce-related proceedings, plaintiffs’ claims were satisfied in 27,578 cases (marriages dissolved), rejected in 18,430 cases (marriages not dissolved), left without consideration in 4,658, and terminated in 1,841 cases.
Regarding employment reinstatement claims, 2,375 cases were reviewed. Of these, 1,053 were satisfied, 911 rejected, 361 left without consideration, and 50 terminated.
Regional and equivalent civil courts reviewed 9,672 cases on appeal. First-instance rulings were overturned in 1,720 cases and amended in 587. In cassation, 6,357 cases were reviewed, with 1,243 rulings overturned and 541 amended. Under supervisory review, 4,267 cases were examined, resulting in 363 reversals and 106 amendments.
The Judicial Panel for Civil Cases of the Supreme Court reviewed 257 cases under supervisory procedure, overturning 130 lower court decisions and amending 35.
