Family ties remain strong in Uzbekistan as divorce rates stay below international averages
Uzbekistan’s divorce ratio stood at 175.6 per thousand in 2025, meaning there were approximately 175 divorces for every 1,000 marriages, according to data provided by the Research Institute of Family and Gender.
This figure is considered low by international standards, suggesting that divorce rates in Uzbekistan remain significantly below those seen in many other countries.
For context, the ratio of divorces per thousand marriages in Moldova was 642.7, in Azerbaijan 431.9, in Kazakhstan 328.2, and in Kyrgyzstan 289.6. These statistics place Uzbekistan among the most stable nations in the region regarding marital longevity.
Regional data shows that marriage stability is highest in the southern provinces of Kashkadarya, Khorezm, and Surkhandarya. By contrast, divorce rates are relatively higher in the capital, Tashkent, as well as in Syrdarya and Tashkent regions.
Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan is considering extending the mandatory reconciliation period for divorcing couples to one year – up from the current six months – to provide families more time to resolve conflicts.
