Ministry of Ecology proposes measures to cut air pollution in Tashkent
The Ministry of Ecology has drafted a resolution and submitted it to the government. Under the proposal, industrial enterprises and greenhouses in Tashkent and its surrounding areas would be required to install dust and gas filtration systems, upgrade boilers, and phase out coal use. According to the ministry, the draft resolution – titled “On additional measures to prevent air pollution and mitigate the effects of climate change in Tashkent city and Tashkent region” – aims to reduce the high level of pollutants emitted by industrial facilities and greenhouse complexes.
In particular, the following measures are proposed:
- installing dust and gas purification equipment at industrial facilities and greenhouses in the region;
- replacing existing greenhouse boilers with modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly systems;
- transitioning greenhouse and industrial operations from coal to alternative energy sources;
- providing financial incentives to enterprises for production modernization, installation of emission treatment systems, local purification facilities, and automatic air monitoring stations – including through grant mechanisms.
The ministry noted that these measures are expected to help “significantly reduce” pollutant emissions.
