President Mirziyoyev to attend Central Asia – US summit in Washington next week

On November 6, Washington will host the “Central Asia – US” summit. A source in the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan confirmed to Kun.uz that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will also participate in the event.

According to the source, invitations to take part in the summit were extended to the presidents of all Central Asian countries, including Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It is noted that President Donald Trump is expected to personally attend the summit, which marks the 10th anniversary of the C5+1 platform.

Earlier, members of the US Congress sent a recommendation letter to President Trump, urging him to hold the “Central Asia – US” (C5+1) summit. The letter emphasized that the forum would be a unique opportunity to strengthen cooperation with Central Asia and promote US strategic interests in the region.

The “Central Asia – US” (C5+1) format was established following the first meeting of foreign ministers held in Samarkand in November 2015. Until the presidential-level meeting in September 2023, the platform functioned primarily at the level of foreign ministers.

Security, economic development, and environmental cooperation remain the key areas of discussion within this initiative.

The most recent meeting of Central Asian and US foreign ministers in the 5+1 format took place on February 28 in Astana. During that session, the parties discussed ways to expand trade and economic relations both among the countries of the region and with the United States.
