Uzbekistan and UNESCO to deepen partnership following Samarkand conference
On November 12, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the newly elected Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Khaled El-Enany.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the outcomes of the 43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference held in Samarkand, as well as prospects for further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the organization.
At the start of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev congratulated El-Enany on his election to the high office and wished him success in his future endeavors. In response, the newly elected Director-General expressed gratitude to the Uzbek leader for supporting UNESCO’s main event and for the high level of its organization.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration, including the expansion of UNESCO’s project-based activities in Uzbekistan. El-Enany also noted that the organization is ready to jointly implement the strategic initiatives proposed by President Mirziyoyev during the opening ceremony of the Samarkand conference.
At the Samarkand session, Egyptian candidate Khaled El-Enany was elected UNESCO’s new Director-General for a four-year term. He will become the organization’s twelfth leader, assuming office on November 15, succeeding Audrey Azoulay.
