Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan sign key bilateral agreements

Following productive talks in Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a joint statement along with a series of significant bilateral agreements aimed at elevating cooperation between the two countries to a new level. The agreements cover a broad range of sectors, including trade, investment, water resources, defense, healthcare, tourism, youth policy, and intercity relations.

The two leaders also agreed to establish bilateral working groups within the framework of the Supreme Interstate Council to focus on geology, rare earth metal extraction, and transboundary river flow forecasting. Additionally, a Council of regional leaders from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will be formed to strengthen regional cooperation.

Key agreements and memoranda signed during the visit include:

  • Treaty on joint management and sustainable use of transboundary water bodies
  • Agreement on opening customs service offices
  • Agreement on coordination of radio frequencies for civil purposes in border areas
  • Treaty on joint military exercises
  • Agreement on establishing a joint investment platform
  • Joint action plan on tourism cooperation for 2026–2027
  • Collaboration program between ministries of justice for 2025–2026
  • Memorandum on cooperation in the mining sector
  • Memorandum of cooperation between Uzbekistan Youth Agency and “Assembly of Youth”
  • Memoranda of understanding between ministries of health on specialized medical services and between medical insurance funds
  • Agreement on cooperation between Tashkent and Astana city administrations
  • Cooperation agreement between “Uzbekneftegaz” and “KazMunayGas” joint-stock companies

Officials noted that the agreements will provide a framework for advancing bilateral trade, investment, water and energy management, defense collaboration, healthcare, tourism, youth policy, and urban partnerships. The signing marks a new stage in strategic relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, reflecting a commitment to deepening regional cooperation and sustainable development.
