Uzbekistan U-17’s World Cup run ends after narrow loss to Italy
Uzbekistan’s U-17 national team exited the tournament after a 2–3 defeat to Italy in the round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Italy dominated the first half. In the 19th minute, Thomas Campaniello reacted first to a rebound saved by goalkeeper Ibrohim Shokirov and sent the ball into the net.
The second half saw a more balanced contest. In the 56th minute, Amirkhon Muradov equalized with a header following a corner kick.
A pair of quick defensive errors decided the outcome. In the 68th and 70th minutes, Campaniello and Idrissa capitalized on mistakes at the back to score the goals that secured Italy’s victory.
In the closing minutes, Azizbek Erimbetov managed to pull one back, but it was not enough.
As a result, the campaign of head coach Islam Ismoilov’s team at the World Cup has come to an end.
